What is Dry Skin?

The skin becomes dry when the water content of its upper layer decreases. This upper layer, the epidermis, contains lipids that promote the hydration of the skin. If our body does not produce enough lipids, the skin loses its moisture and dries up. This feeling of discomfort can be alleviated by adopting appropriate care, which helps to regain radiant skin.

7 Tips of Dry Skin Care

1- Cleanse and hydrate:

Proper cleansing is the basis of an effective dry skin care routine, regardless of the season. In winter, when our skin is drier, we can replace our usual cleaner with a cleansing oil, so as not to clog the pores. The oil effectively removes impurities and make-up. So, it dissolves and disappears completely on rinsing. Look for a cream or ointment that contains oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil. Shea butter also works well. Other ingredients that help to soothe dry skin include lactic acid, urea, hyaluronic acid, simethicone, glycerine, lanolin, mineral oil, and petrolatum. The skin becomes soft and luminous without being greasy. For better dry skin care, take hot showers to relax and cleanse the skin and then finish with cold water to tighten the skin. It's a quick way to have nice, soft skin.

2- Best time to cleanse dry skin deeply: in the Evening

When you have dry skin, wipe gently with a cotton soaked in micellar water. This helps to refresh the skin while preserving its lipid barrier, which prevents the water in the cells from evaporating. As for deep cleansing, it’s preferable to do it in the evening.

3- Aloe for dry skin:

Aloe contains many vitamins, including vitamin A and E. Its benefits include helping to heal, moisturise and regenerate skin cells for healthy, smooth skin. If you sunbathe in the sun, do not forget to apply aloe once you get home. Using aloe is, without a doubt, one of the best dry skin care products, not only on your face, but also on your whole body.

4- Avoid beauty products with alcohol:

Many beauty products contain alcohol although they are much rarer these days. Alcohol can be harmful for the dry skin because it will make it even drier. This type of alcohol-based beauty treatments should be avoided if you want to fight dry skin on the face.

5- Removing dead skin:

If our skin is dry on the surface, it means that we might need to get rid of dead cells that prevent deep hydration of the skin. Mechanical scrubs that contain small grains should be used sparingly in winter as they can irritate skin already sensitised by the cold.

6- When to apply moisturiser cream/mask?:

Invest in a night cream that works deeply while you are asleep. In addition, sunscreen is an essential part of your morning skin care routine. It is particularly relevant if you spend extended periods of time outdoors.

7- We feed our dry skin from the inside:

One of the most important tips for dry skin care is to nourish the skin from the inside by ensuring that our diet is rich enough in antioxidants and omega-3, 6, 7 and 9, which can be found especially in nuts and avocados. Physical activity, in all its forms, stimulates blood circulation and helps the skin to glow and become softer.
